Members' Communications
June 19, 2009
Update – Notification of Employment Status of
OSAS-represented Employees
Your union has been informed that
Human Resources is sending a written communication to each member who received a
layoff notice. That letter will clearly
state your employment status as of July 1, 2009: ·
layoff confirmed; ·
layoff rescinded; ·
reclassification (with new assignment and title); or ·
transfer (with new assignment).
At this time, the district has
elected to eliminate the position of Curriculum Leader/Coordinator. Those individuals who previously indicated a
desire to return to teaching positions will be contacted by Human Resources as
fall staffing needs are determined.
Reminders: ·
Check the district’s website regularly for employment opportunities;
·
Health and life insurance benefits will remain in effect through October
5, 2009 for non-renewed members and those who remain on
layoff; ·
OSAS members who do not have reasonable assurance of employment for fall
2009 should file a claim for unemployment compensation
benefits following your last day of work (regular or summer school
assignment).
As
further updates regarding members’ employment status are received from the
district, the information will be posted here.

Employment Status of Curriculum
Leaders/Coordinators
According to information received in
a telephone call from the Office of Labor Relations this morning, Curriculum
Leaders/Coordinators should expect to receive written communication from the
district within the next two days relative to your employment/recall. In essence, the district has decided to
eliminate the position of Curriculum Leader/Coordinator as of June 20,
2009.
As OSAS looks into the legality of
the district’s latest maneuver, please be advised that you must act to protect
your future employment with DPS. With
that in mind, be advised that the position of Instructional Specialist (40
weeks) is currently posted on the district’s website. If you are interested in
being placed in this eligibility pool, you must act quickly as the closing
date is June 19, 2009.
As of this date, the union has not
received any information relative to the employment/recall of individuals in any
other OSAS classifications. Rest assured
that information will be shared with you as it is made available to this
union.
In the meantime, OSAS members who do
not have reasonable assurance of employment/recall for fall 2009 should file a
claim for unemployment compensation benefits following your last day of work
(regular or summer school assignment).
